Researcher in altered states of consciousness and human adaptation.
Dr. Malin Vedøy Uthaug is a Researcher and Principal Investigator at Maastricht University and Founder of Embalance AS. She is leading investigator-initiated research on how intense altered states unfold in the body and nervous system, and why outcomes range from integration and wellbeing to dysregulation. Her work spans pharmacological and non-pharmacological extremes, with a focus on 5-MeO-DMT and freediving, integrating field-based data collection with mechanistic and longitudinal biomarker research. She is also the co-creator of bodyset, a biologically grounded extension of the classic set and setting framework, developed to capture the role of baseline physiological state and nervous system regulation in shaping outcomes.
