Bodyset.
= “the state of the body”.
Bodyset is a scientific construct co-created by Dr. Malin V. Uthaug & Dr. Jack Allocca together with Dr. Martha Havenith, Dr. Attila Szabo, Dr. Fernando E. Rosas, and Prof. Johannes G. Ramaekers, and formally published in the Journal of Psychedelic Studies, April 2025.
The construct expands the traditional “(mind)set and setting” framework by integrating the physiological state of the individual as a key determinant of psychedelic experiences and related outcomes.
It captures the inner physical landscape present before a session. Factors such as breath, heart rate, stress load, inflammation, diet, injuries, fitness level, substance use, water intake, toxins, infections and a lot more - everything the body quietly carries - shapes how you feel, how your system responds, and what becomes possible in the journey.
Current work focuses on empirical studies and applied developments aimed at integrating the construct into scientific and therapeutic practice. This opens the door for more refined preparation methods, individualized protocols, and research grounded in physiology. The authors and originators of the bodyset construct welcome collaboration with funders, philanthropists, grant bodies, and institutions interested in advancing bodyset-related research and initiatives.
